Small changes bring results!

healthy habitsIn January I published a post about 7 totally unsexy but totally doable life changes.

I’ve acted on most of the items on the list for more than two months: I’ve consistently journaled my food, paid attention to regular meal times and front-loading, found new healthy but delicious recipes, added steps to my day and decreased the time spent sitting. [Read more…]

In my earlier post I wrote about reasons for keeping a food journal.

In this post I’m going to explain how to keep a food journal and I also share a printable food journal template I created for myself. If you like it, you can upload it for yourself.

Basically, your food log can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. The only thing you need is a pencil and a piece of paper. Some people just jot down the foods  they ate and little else. [Read more…]

Why journal your food?

scrappy-appleSorry in advance for the lengthy introduction before I discuss the reasons for keeping a food log.

I wanted to write it simply because I’m so excited I’ve been able to create a new habit without struggle. 🙂

I’ve now journaled my food for over 50 days. I’ve tried food journaling before, but I couldn’t make the habit stick. How did I make it work this time over? [Read more…]

Advantages of Staying Overweight

Young girl measuring her waist.

NOTE: I probably should’ve named this post the “advantages of not dieting” rather than the advantages of staying overweight. What will happen to my weight when I focus my energies on other goals than actively trying to lose weight? I don’t know but  I hope that I don’t gain more weight.  Of course it’s also quite possible I don’t lose any weight either.

I’m going to do it anyway. 🙂

The last four months have been pretty busy and I haven’t used much energy to further my weight loss.

The good news is that even though I haven’t lost any weight, I haven’t gained more weight either. [Read more…]

My Incredible Shrinking Belly

Ok, the title may be a bit of an exaggeration. 🙂 I took a new set of weight loss pictures last week, but because of all the hassle, I didn’t get to publishing them before.

I think you can see – especially from the front picture – that my belly is shrinking. Not so much from the side pictures. That’s interesting because for the last 1,5 months or so my weight has been on a standstill. It has hovered between 69,3kg – 69,8 kg (that’s 1.1lb). So nothing much has happened weight-wise, but my belly fat is burning away. Very good.

I can feel myself that the rolls in my lower abdomen are shrinking. My jeans feel loose and baggy and I think I need to get a new pair of jeans soon. Besides, spring is just around the corner and we soon get to shed outer layers of clothing in Finland. I can’t go around wearing baggy jeans anymore.

What would all the eligible bachelors think? 🙂

I’ve been very happy with my new workout schedule (I switched to working out in the morning before I start working). I’m always energetic and in a good mood when I start my day after a strenuous strength training session. It’s quite different than the mornings where I don’t do anything physical – maybe I should start doing some cardio on the other mornings?

When the weather gets warmer, I could even start taking brisk walks outside.

I can also feel the effect of my increased strength training (I went from 1-2 weekly workouts to 3 workouts – except for last week which was a catastrophe). I’m clearly stronger already and I can feel how my posture is improving. I’ve worked hard at strengthen my weak lower trapezius and increase the mobility of my thoracic spine.  Still, my posture always collapses when I work long days at the computer. 🙁

I hope you’re doing great fitness-wise!
