Wrapping up February, welcome March

WriterThis is the last day of February and the last day of my More movement, less exercise challenge.

In case you’re interested, I didn’t get juggling balls or footbags, at least not yet. 🙂

I’ve done my best to  increase the amount and variety of movement in my daily movement regimen.

Like I wrote here, I set up a DIY standing desk a few weeks ago and started using it. I’ve also

  • carried loads in my arms in addition to using my backpack
  • taken stairs to 6th floor many times-  It’s getting easier so  I must’ve become fitter!
  • crossed my legs the non-habitual way
  • watched television sitting on the floor, my bed, my regular armchair or my exercise ball
  • I’ve read a book strolling around my apartment

I also tried hauling a 10 kg pail full of wet laundry to the 6th floor but I gave up on the 3rd floor.  I concluded that women must’ve been insanely strong when they still had to do manual work. They sure didn’t need gyms!

I have to confess that I mostly  forgot to hide my remote controls, but luckily they often get lost spontaneously. I usually find the missing one under my bed.

I’ve gotten plenty of Feldenkrais practice after I started doing short 5-10 minute lessons that are easy to fit into my workday. I just wish I had started doing it earlier, instead of thinking that I have to do long 40-60 lessons (#wycwyc!!). Doing Feldenkrais also increases the variety of my daily movement regime because many of the movements are downright weird! 🙂

March focus: Writing

writing-down-the-bones_fixedI chose writing as my March focus. I’ve blogged  and written nonfiction pretty regularly in the last few years, but now I want to broaden my writing repertoire and return to my “literary”roots.

I used to write fairy tales from ages 9 to 14, but I gradually gave up writing fiction altogether.

I plan on writing morning pages a la Julia Cameron every day and I’m also going to seek writing inspiration in Natalie Goldberg’s book Writing Down the Bones. I also set myself one writing-related goal: I’m going to finish the fairy story (succinctly named “Fairy Story” because there are fairies in it! ) I started writing with my nieces Siiri and Iiris during the Holidays.

I hope I don’t feel like fish out water in March! 🙂
